Gr: Updates 20/12/2009

On the first part of the video the right wing politician named Stefanos Manos states that the revolt in Greece must be stopped even with the army if necessary. The next shots of the video show special army forces heavy armed in front of the parliament. The text which follows is a statement by soldiers who refused to get in the streets, as long as their position was on the side of the revolted persons. The translation of the text:

Hundrents of soldiers from 44 army camps state:
WE REFUSE TO BECOME A FORCE OF TERRORISM AND REPRESSION AGAINST THE MOVEMENTS.
WE ARE ON THE SIDE OF PUPILS - STUDENTS - WORKERS!

We are soldiers from army camps all around Greece. Soldiers who took orders in Chania before some time to stand armed opposite of students, workers and fighters of the antimilitary movement. Soldiers who are responsible for the reconstruction and "well fighting ability" of the greek army. We experience in daily life the ideologigal terrorism of militarism, nationalism and unpayed exploitation and subjection to hierarcy.

We were informed in the army camps about one more "single event": the death, caused by a police officer's gun, of a fifteen years old boy named Alexandros. We listen to this name coming to our ears among protestors' slogans above the walls of the army camps.

As "single events" were also characterized the deaths of three soldiers during August. As "single events" were also characterized the 42 dead soldiers of the last 3,5 years.

We get informed that Athens, Thessaloniki and much more towns all around Greece become a field of a social explosion, fields where the rage of thousands young workers and unemployed gets expressed.

We were dressed under army uniforms and "working unifirms", with terms and punishment work, servants of the "heads", but we put ourselves on the side of the people who revolt. We have lived as students, pupils, workers and desperate unemployed. We know about the "zarntiniera case", the "gun-fires by luck", and "the accidental killings". We have experienced the desperation of working without health insurance, the exploitation, being fired from job and the construction of laws against citizens.

We listen the whispers and innuendos by army generals, we listen the government's public threat for application of "extreme need situation" law. We know really well what this means. We know it through intensification, more services, the extreme conditions with our finger on the gun ready for anything.

Yesterday we were order to "take really care". And we ask:
WHO GAVE THE ORDER FOR US TO TAKE REALLY CARE?

Today they ordered us to be prepared and standby. And we ask:
AGAINST WHOM YOU ORDERED US TO BE STANDBY?

You ordered us to be ready to establish an EXTREME NEED SITUATION:
-Giving ready-to-shot guns in some army camps around Attica even with orders to shoot against citizens if the soldiers would be endagered. (z.B. TENX army camp in Menidi district, close to the police office which was attacked)
-Giving swords which are put on the soldiers' guns around Evros area after announcing a standby situation.
-Frightening of demonstrators, by appearing organized teams of soldiers in front of army camps.
-The transfer of police vehicles in army camps at Nafplio, Tripoli, Korinthos towns.
-The "dopping" speech by army-Major I. Konstantaros in the Training Center of Thiva town, trying to equalize and put in the same feelings position soldiers with "shopkeepers who lose their properties".
-Spreading plastic bullets at the Training Center of Korinthos with the order to shoot on citizens if they will come close "threatening". (against whom, would they come closer?????)
-Putting the Army Team of Honour Giving in front of the parliament opposite of demonstrators on Saturday 13/12/2008 and the soldiers of Nafplio Training Center opposite of workers' demonstration.
-Threatening to transfer Special Repression Forces from Germany and Italy as an Occupation Army and show by this the real authoritan European Union's face against workers' rights.

Police shoots on our bodies, aiming the present and future of social insurrections. That's why they prepare the Army to take Police responsibilities and the society to accept back in the streets the forces of Totalitarianism of Reformers.

They prepare us to stay opposite to our friends, to people we get in touch and to our brothers and sisters. They prepare us to stay opposite to our ex and future co-workers and co-students.

These measures of law proves that the Army-Police authorities with the support of Chinofotis (ex-army General, now step-minister of Inlands, responsible for internal "disorder") -General National Deffence Authorities, with the support of govenment, the orders of the European Union, the "desperated business bosses" and the nazistic teams, have as purpose to use the Armed Forces as an Occupation Army - "team for peace" is the name you give us to send us to Afghanistan: - in the towns we have grown up, in the neighbourhoods and the streets we have also walked on.

But the politic and army authorities forget that we are also a part of this youth. They forget that we are flesh part of the flesh of a youth, that faces the desert of reality inside and outside of army camps. Part of a youth that rages, fights against becoming slaves and mostly DOES NOT GET FRIGHTEN!

WE ARE CITIZENS IN ARMY UNIFORMS.

°... we will never accept to be part of the fear they try to spread around society.
°... we will never accept to become a force of repression and terror.
°... we will never accept to stand against people, with whom we share the same fears, the same needs and wills, the same future, the same dangers and hopes.
°... WE DENY TO GET OUT IN THE STREETS IN THE NAME OF ANY EXTREME NEED SITUATION, AGAINST OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS.

As an armed youth we are in solidarity with the revolted people and we shout loudly that we will never become part of the police and government repression.

We will never face against our society. We will never let to rise up a situation in the army forces which will remind of the 1967 days.
