Castor autobahn action: north German convoy

There were also autobahn actions in northern Germany. Convoy with two Castor models (one in original size on a 30-tonne lowloader), an accompanying vehicle, many cars and lots of real police. Demo in Braunschweig city and protest drive on the A2.
Activists also took part in north Germany in autobahn actions against the Castor transport from Rossendorf/Dresden to Ahaus. They came from various places in northern Germany, including the Wendland (Gorleben). Two different Castor models were driven about, one in original size on a 30-tonne lowloader, for the first time to a demo in Braunschweig City.

There a kind of largescale street theatre was performed through the inner city with the original-size Castor model, with original Wendland resistance fighters, original chain-on activists and real Braunschweig police.

Especially activists from Hamburg, Lüneburg and the Wendland noticed how pleasant it is when demonstrations can take place without massive and violent disturbance by the police, as if previously announced. Something they haven?t experienced for years, in fact.

The police left it at traffic control, behaved friendly, relaxed and non-interventionist.

After the demo in Braunschweig the convoy drove without claiming any special privileges from Braunschweig on to the autobahn along the possible route for the Rossendorf trucking.

It was accompanied by a dozen different police vehicles. A brief stop was made at Rasthof (layby) Zweidorfer Holz.

An incident occurred there. The driver of a plain police car, who missed the turnoff, just drove backwards for more than a hundred metres on the B2 that was thick with traffic, which he endangered considerably.

The convoy participants who observed this amuck drive without any securing couldn?t believe their eyes. Especially as there were plenty of patrol cars on hand who could have properly secured such a back-up drive had it really been necessary.

The police commander this was suggested to interestingly enough didn?t think it had been a dangerous manoeuvre.

But a short time later he did see a considerable traffic hazard in a banner with which local activists greeted the convoy from an autobahn bridge. He had the banner confiscated immediately and the personal details taken down of everyone nearby.

At every autobahn exit and on each parking lot there were mostly several police vehicles which thankfully raised the public awareness of the convoy.

After another stop at the Garbsen roadhouse the convoy drove back on to the opposite side and set out on the way back. Just behind Hanover another police vehicle, a patrol car this time, missed an exit and again, without being secured, drove backwards a few hundred metres so as not lo lose sight of the convoy.

This repeated, incredibly irresponsible, in fact traffic-criminal behaviour of the police on the autobahns gives rise to great fears in respect of Day X. We will have to be even more cautious and take into account totally mindless police behaviour.

The author also recalls here that ALL police seriously injured during CASTOR transports sustained those injuries because of reckless behaviour by police drivers. That is a fact the skilful press releases have kept silent about.

Apart from that, everyone involved in this joint supraregional north German action thought it was most pleasant and set out for home in the best of spirits.

Stop all atomic installations!
Stop all atomic transports!
