Friends! The situation is rapidly changing in the unofficial camp at Horgoš. Just a few weeks ago the population was around 150-200, and has now risen to over 700 people. The parks in Belgrade have been closed for "renovation" and 300 migrants began a march from Belgrade to Horgoš along the highway. Around 130 ultimately arrived on Sunday night, with the rest returning to Belgrade and camps elsewhere. Upon arrival, a hunger strike was started, growing to around 140 strikers refusing food and shelter from the unobstructed sun in a field near the Horgoš tent encampment. There is a general call for urgent solidarity needed at the Hungarian border, in support of the hunger strikers. The demonstration is starting to gain some attention from the media but all kinds of solidarity is still required, from water to phone charging to medical aid. Several of us have arrived at Subotica this week, distributing watermelon and childrens clothes, speaking with people in the camp and attempting to reach the hunger strikers. We are searching for a permanent base to work out of and should have something this week. Additionally we are preparing ways of drawing greater awareness to the protests in the camp. Further updates as they come in, this is also the email that we can be reached at if anyone is interested in participating. Right now our main need is help raising funds to continue distribution in the camps and the proliferation of awareness of the hunger strike.
