Gaddafis eiserne Faust regiert das Land nach Art einer Gaddafi, Inc. seit 42 Jahren. Libyen hat mit geschätzten 47 Milliarden Barrels die größten Ölreserven des afrikanischen Kontinents, die obendrein auch billig auszubeuten sind. Nach Norwegen und Russland ist Libyen der drittwichtigste Öllieferant Europas, das wiederum mit 79% der weitaus wichtigste Abnehmer Lybiens ist.
Zwei Drittel der 6,5 Millionen umfassenden Bevölkerung leben von weniger als zwei Dollar pro Tag.
Zehntausende beteiligen sich an der größten Volkserhebung seit Bestehen dieses Regimes und demonstrieren gegen die Brutalität des Staates und für ein Ende des Gaddafi-Regimes. Die Unruhen in Libyen, die am 14. Februar begonnen und sich vorerst auf die östlichen Städte Benghazi - der zweitgrößten Stadt 1000 km östlich der Hauptstadt Tripoli -, Bayda und Tobruk konzentriert hatten, breiten sich nun auch in den Westen des Landes aus.
Krankenhäuser sind mit der Menge an eingelieferten Schwerverletzten überfordert, es herrscht Mangel an Blutvorräten. Die Zahl der in den letzten Tagen Getöteten wird aktuell mit 285 angegeben, die Zahl erhöht sich ständig. Schüsse dröhnen in den Straßen, Militär ist überall, auf Dächern sind Scharfschützen postiert, Spezialtruppen mit auf Fahrzeugen montierten Maschinengewehren wie auch gedungene Söldnertruppen sind auf den Straßen unterwegs. Zeugenberichten zufolge hatte das Regime in Vorwegnahme kommender Unruhen nach dem Beispiel Tunesiens und Ägyptens mit nicht genannten afrikanischen Staaten und Sri Lanka Deals ausgehandelt, denen gemäß nun Söldner in Tripoli eingeflogen und mit Waffen ausgestattet werden und für einen Lohn von pro Kopf 30000 Dollar auf Protestierende Jagd machen. Armeeangehörige, die sich weigerten, auf die Bevölkerung zu schießen, sollen erschossen worden sein. Teile der Armee solidarisieren sich inzwischen mit den Demonstranten.
„Ich kann die Appelle der Mäßigung an alle Seiten nicht mehr hören. Ich frage mich, an wen diese Appelle gerichtet sind. Wir haben nichts in unseren Händen, nichts als unsere bloßen Körper, auf die mit scharfer Munition geschossen wird,“ sagt Ibrahim Jibreel, ein lybischer Aktivist und Mitglied der Opposition.

- the forces left their weapons everywhere as they left the area, we are a small group of people, one is an officer, collecting the weapons in front of courthouse of benghazi, to be safed from abuse, missles, guns, tanks
- we call to send red cross, clinics are overcrowded so more got set up at the streets, medical stuff can only stabilize the injured people, more they cannot do no treatment to wounds, there are many people with bad injuries like bullets in their head

videos with horrible images are circulating especially in the tweets and at youtube, in one you can see burnt deaths, due to the info by the uploader it shall be soldiers, who rejected to shot on protesters, who then were locked by ghaddafi's loyal troops in a basement and burnt alive. another one shows pictures of several slashed or badly injured people from inside a hospital.
landlines and mobile phones are blocked(confirmed people can't reach their relatives in libya), currently there are reports that libyan air force opend fire on protesters in central tripoli, but there are also rumors that the youth movement is on its way to support the protesting people in tripoli

19.10 Uhr: Uno-Generalsekretär Ban Ki-moon hat bei einem Gespräch mit dem libyschen Machthaber Muammar Gaddafi ein sofortiges Ende der Gewalt in dem nordafrikanischen Land gefordert.
Über die Piloten zweier in Malta gelandeten Kampfjets werden immer mehr Details bekannt. Die zwei Obristen der libyschen Luftwaffe hatten bereits vor ihrer Landung um politisches Asyl gebeten. Militärkreisen zufolge sei ihnen die Landung erlaubt worden. Bestätigen sich die Angaben der Piloten, dann wurde der libyschen Luftwaffe befohlen, in Tripolis auf Protestler zu feuern.

Jahrzehntelang konnten und mussten sie sich damit begnügen, die Propaganda ihrer Führer wiederzugeben. Nun sollen sie plötzlich die Ansichten der Bürger wiedergeben. Einzig Al-Jazeera scheint den Test zu bestehen – und scheitert doch kurz vor dem Ziel.
Naja wie das in Europa aussieht, da will ich hier nicht weiter drauf eingehen.
