Rassismus in Tschechien

Prerov - About 300 extremists are expected to arrive in Prerov on Saturday to take part in a demonstration that according to its organisers from the Autonomous Nationalists far right party is to be a "march against black racism," Town Hall spokesman Bohuslav Pridal told CTK today.
He said the authorities had no possibilities to ban the event that was initially announced by Jiri Svehlik, chairman of the far right Workers' Party (DS) Olomouc branch, as a march against racism.
However, the DS later distanced itself from the event and the Autonomous Nationalists took over its organisation.
The town police is on alert and intend to send 300 officers to the streets on Saturday.
"They have properly announced a demonstration and a march against racism and we have taken note of it and asked the police for cooperation," Pridal said.
According to state police spokeswoman Michaela Sedlackova, the police will also use a helicopter that will monitor the situation from above, and will strengthen police cordons along the town streets.
Car parking along the streets will be banned, she said, adding that the police were communicating with the local Romany community.
"We have indicated that it would not be appropriate for them to turn up at the demonstration." she said.
Pridal said the authorities were prepared to immediately dissolve the demonstration if the law were violated.
Local civic organisations, for instance, People in Need and the We do not Want Neo-Nazis in Prerov have also called on the Town Hall to ban the event.
The groups believe that the goal of the demonstration is to stir racial intolerance. According to it, although the original organisers have distanced themselves from the event the radicals who are organising it are notorious for causing street disturbances at the housing estate Janov in Litvinov, north Bohemia, which is mainly occupied by Romanies.
On their website, the Autonomous Nationalists talk about the need to "end Romany terror in Prerov" in connection with the planned demonstration. In discussion forums they call for the second meeting similar to that in Janov and say they rely on "large support of ordinary people."
Last October, Romanies from Janov prevented a group of extremists from the DS from marching through Janov.
Taking revenge, the DS called a march through Litvinov on November 17 that developed into clashes with the police on the boarders of Janov.
Many local residents then expressed support to the extremists by joining the anti-Romany march.
