Armut in Israel (Fotos)

Dorit Avramovits 29.12.2008 - 14:11
In a couple of weeks the public will demand a commission of inquiry to the failure of the current invasion, by that time, more Palestinians and tens of our soldiers will die. Only then we will wake up with disgust at this government.
In a war that is organized for the sake of getting elected, nothing has to do with security, other then slogans. The public is flooded with chauvinism, embodied in election slogans such as “it’s too big for her”, championed by Bibi Netanyaho and his party the Likod and directed at Tzipi Livni. The destroying tool of Ahod Barak, who is trying to show that he has the biggest one. Tzipi Livni, however, instead of offering negotiations and a different leadership, has joined these generals who belong to a very small species.

Most of the public has spoken, 46 percent has said no to another war that speaks security but causes fear and insecurity. But those who are above, are busy with election propaganda, moving tanks and airplanes into Gaza, and are proving that the state leadership has no new message. In all this flight of parliament parties trying to prove who has a thrust and bigger object, they are ignoring the public statement who has said very clearly- “no more, we despise grinding, we are tired of wars."

This could have been perfect timing for Livni, a woman beside so many little men, to come and oppose this bloody war, to say “I’m not like the rest of you, I listen and answer to the public’s position, a position that has been exposed only a couple of days ago." This could have been proof that she can be a different leader. She could have left Bibi and Barak holding on to what is considered to them big, while declaring that for her their propaganda is so pathetic, dangerous, deluded and small. There are some who still remember how she tried in a very quite voice to oppose the invasion of Lebanon. She did not dare at the end to oppose that invasion, although the conclusion of that war was known from the beginning. Now that she is a candidate for a prime minister position, there is a civil society that is waiting for her to come out and say “I’m for a social economic and civil security; this will never be achieved by weapons.”

The script is already known; in little time hundreds of thousands will join those who are now opposing a war and an invasion that are designed to grant security only to Barak and Bibi. In a couple of weeks, all those TV commentators will speak against such a deluded and dangerous Idea--to bomb Gaza and to open another war front. Just as thousands of us protested against the invasion of Lebanon, facing threats from people who accused us of jeopardizing the security of our fellow citizens, we are confronted now with the same journey. We are currently enemies of the state, but in a couple of weeks most of the public, who has already stated that it does not want another war, will demand a commission of inquiry to investigate the failure of this invasion. In the process, thousands of Palestinians will die, tens of civilians, and tens of soldiers will leave grieving parents. Only then will the public wake up and express nausea and disgust at a government that keeps using our lives as election propaganda with headlines that read “who has the biggest one? Barak, Bibi, or Livni?”

This is a move that is purely chauvinistic and sexist, accompanied with slogans such as 'bigger', 'the invasion inside', 'concur', and ‘penetration’. This move disregard the will of the public in the occupied territories and in Israel. This is the time for Livni to stop the rape of society by the government. She should lead a motion that demands listening and an agreement to the will of most of the country. There is a limit to how much one can penetrate, concur, invade, and to call all of that “security”. There is a limit to how much politicians can use our bodies and existence to gain influence in the election. This is the time for all of us who care about our security to go out and speak very clearly and resist language lexicons that are taken out of sexual violence against women, against minors. We must stop the killing, because we are the ones who are going to come out of it concurred, raped, and helpless in the hands of rulers.
