Squatting Actions in Denmark
December 28th had been declared as a day of squatting actions. Groups across the country had selected target buildings and throughout the day and late into the night the actions went on.
The first house was taken at ten am and held late into the afternoon. Several of the squatters refered to the need for a new Ungdomshus, but also to a general need for more affordable housing and creative free spaces.
One house was targetted by a child-power group with reference to "Børnehuset" - a squat in inner Copenhagen focussed on and run by child-power activists, which was declared uninhabitable in 2003 by the council of Copenhagen. The activists agreed to leave the house peacefully in exchange for a promise from the council to provide them a new house. That promise has never been fulfilled, adding to the general distrust of the council.
A group from Copenhagen have been using and working on a house for some months now, demonstrating that it is possible to hold a squat and keep it secret. As a part of the actions they took the opportunity to guide other activists to the squat, where a small party went on into the early hours of the morning.
With the exception of one in the small town Svendborg which is continuing, all the squats that were made public during the day were evicted within hours, mostly without any drama and only few arrests.

Helsinki: Squatters go nomadic

Today the Youth Department of the city of Helsinki decided not to rent the squatted house in the Vallila district to be used as an autonomous social centre. The private insurance company, Etera, that owns the house has declared that it will not negotiate the matter any more. This means that an eviction is only a matter of time.
We choose when to fight instead of letting the cops do it. Today we decided to raise the level of conflict in a confrontational demonstration.
200 people reclaimed one of the most central crossings in Helsinki and blocked the traffic for one hour. After that the demonstration returned to the house, throwing paint bombs, and barricades were built on the street and set on fire.
Unfortunately the resources in the Helsinki squatting scene are still small and when the cops come to evict it is a battle we are sure to loose.
In this situation we choose to leave this house and go nomadic. Today we disappear to return with even more force in the near future. Look out for headlines from Helsinki next time in January. Until then any expressions of solidarity will be warmly received in the hearts of the ever growing squatting scene of Helsinki.

hauprojekt liebigstaße berlin ist gefährdet
es ist noch nicht an der zeit tschüß zu sagen!
wir alle kennen die derzeitige situation von sogenannten “rechts freien” räumen in europa so steht auch unser hausprojekt vor der zerschlagung.
die Liebigstr. 34/Bar XB/Infoladen „Daneben“ ist ein 17 jahre altes hausprojekt in berlin, welches 1990 besetzt wurde und immer noch so autonom wie möglich ist. es gibt keine hierarchien und vor allem keine patriarchalen strukturen! es ist ein frauen-lesben-trans projekt und eines der letzten in ganz europa es ist international bekannt und wichtig für die feministische szene…
nun wurden die verträge ende oktober gekündigt. wir entschieden uns daraufhin der gesellschaft welche das gebäude verwaltet einen kompromiss vorzuschlagen, dieser beinhaltet, daß die derzeitigen bewohnerinnen in dem haus bleiben können und das die gesellschaft den vertrag soweit abändert, daß das haus nicht an den spekulanten Gijora Padovicz verkauft werden kann. dieser ist einer der größten spekulanten in friedrichshain und besitzt mehr als 200 häuser, er kauft bevorzugt heruntergekommene häuser und baut diese dann zu yuppieschuppen um. die gesllschaft factor welche das gebäude der liebigstraße 34 verwaltet schrieb zurück, daß sie das haus am 8 november besichtigen wolle und das die bewohnerinnen die appartments zurückgeben müßten also das sie das gebäude zu verlassen hätten.
A few squats were evictet
In Århus a house that had been squatted since the actions on December 28th was evicted early this morning. The eviction happened peacefully and the squatters have all been released. Another two houses in Central Jutland are still ongoing since the actions, and across the country other groups are planning new actions, at least one planned with preliminary barricade building aimed at a permanent occupation.
