citizen inspectors entered the main facilities of the NATO Response Force base

In the 5th Citizens Inspection, on the 12th May, at 11.30a.m. a team of 7
citizen inspectors entered the main facilities of the NATO Response Force base
despite security vigilance measures, demand its closure and conversion into a
social and ecologically friendly space, as part of a week of actions against
military installations.
--- From a point 300 metres distant from the main
entrance to the base, pacifists entered the perimeter fence and after advancing
20 metres, climbed up onto the roof of a small construction from where they
could see the installations. A few minutes later the inspectors found
themselves surrounded by military and police agents in large numbers. The
protest march which had left Betera 40 minutes before, arrived on the scene
where they remained throughout. The inspectors unfurled a banner with the
slogan “Peace without Armies”.
80 people joined the annual inspection in the main street of Betera.
Dressed in white coats and carrying placards in different languages
against wars, armed forces, security fences and borders, they made a
lively procession through the streets of Betera. They were accompanied by
musicians playing traditional music. On various occasions, when a siren
sounded, the demonstrators threw themselves on the ground (including in
front of the main gate of the base). They attached placards to the fence
which read: “DANGER. HIGH LEVELS OF VIOLENCE”
After 20 minutes wait, 3 policemen arrived at the roof where the
inspectors were, to ask for identification and insist that they leave the
enclosure immediately. The policemen accepted the demand of the inspectors
to remain there a little longer to make the protest more visible. They
started to climb down the ladder but disagreements between the different
armed forces led to some confusion as it seemed there was lack of
agreement about what to do with the group. They were no detentions made
and, to the surprise of the inspectors, their task of inspection was
helped as they were let out through a vehicle exit at the other end of
the base, giving them to get a good view of the installations.
According to the inspectors “Once more, the police response to a civil
initiative makes us think that the NATO’s Response base in Betera is
hiding a lot from the public”. “no even a palm’s breadth of land for war:
wars kilometres and kilometres from where we live really begin near our
homes in bases with interventionist and aggressive objectives”

This action tries to go beyond the denouncing of the terrible consequences
of war to highlight the politics, institutions and installations
responsible for preparation and perpetration of war. We have concentrated
on the Betera base over the years, as it is on our doorstep, and is a base
capable of directing a military action against “international terrorism”
with 20,000 soldiers anywhere in the world. (the excuse used for bombing
and invading Iraq and Afghanistan). That means we all are involved and in
so much, are targets for potential attacks.
The tsunami of cement which floods Valencia is accompanied by a more
silent one, that of military colour. In Quart, (Valencia), they will
shortly be opening a base where they will co-ordinate military actions of
the UN “Peace-Keeping” Force. They have nothing to do with peace, they
occupy Lebanon rather than territory held by Israel, the aggressor; they
are implicated in at least two massacres of civilians in Haiti, a fact
recognised by the UN, and accusations of violations of minors and
trafficking of women is on the increase. In Rabasa, (Alicante), there is a
base of special operations and in Marines, an armoured vehicle base.
International Campaign
This action forms part of an campaign to demand the closure and conversion
of all military installations. RECLAIM MILITARY SPACES. We call for people
to carry out non-violent actions at military bases, recruitment agencies,
arms manufacturers and financial entities who invest in the arms industry.
We want to see the abolition of the armed forces and an end to wars.
In Spain, a campaign is running against the possible installation of the
NATO Ground Surveillance System (AGS) in Zaragoza or Valladolid, and the
NATO School of Combat Pilots in Albacete (Tactic Leadership Program). On
6 May, a march took place on the US base in Rota (Cadiz), and today a
group of anti-militarists entered the manoeuvres camp in San Gregorio
(Zaragoza) and painted a tank pink. 20 May there will be a march for the
demilitarization of the Sierra de Aitana (Alicante), where there is a
military radar air vigilance base on the peak of the mountains.

CNT de Palma - El próximo sábado 16 de diciembre, a las 11:00, tendrá lugar en la calle San Miguel de Palma, a la altura del cruce con la Calle de los Olmos, la presentación por parte de CNT de la CAMPAÑA CONTRA LOS JUGUETES BÉLICOS Y SEXISTAS.
Durante los días 16 y 23 de diciembre de 2006, CNT va a realizar una campaña en relación a los juegos y juguetes que durante las fechas navideñas se adquieren.
En este sentido, el sindicato va a distribuir a la ciudadanía, en las zonas comerciales de la ciudad, una serie de documentos para la reflexión, tanto de padres como de educadores, sobre la orientación de los juegos y juguetes que se regalan a los niños y las niñas, y la derivación educativa que estos pueden tener en sus futuras vidas, invitando a no adquirir productos de juego que fomenten la violencia o el sexismo.

¿Crees que es buena idea que tus hijos asuman la violencia como una parte fundamental de sus vidas?
Si está en tus manos, evita regalar juguetes bélicos o, posiblemente, harás de tus hijos personas fácilmente manipulables por instituciones que los utilizarán a su antojo para participar en sus guerras-negocio y matar a personas que ni siquiera han tenido tiempo de conocer.
Recuerda: el 90% de las víctimas de las guerras son civiles y más de la mitad niños como el tuyo.
NO REGALES VIOLENCIA.
LA NO VIOLENCIA COMO VALOR EDUCATIVO
El juego, junto con las necesidades básicas de nutrición, salud, protección y educación, es esencial para desarrollar el potencial de niños y niñas. El juego es instintivo, espontáneo, natural y exploratorio. El juego es comunicación y expresión, combinación del pensamiento y acción; brinda satisfacción y sentimiento de logro. Está relacionado con todos los aspectos de la vida y contribuye al desarrollo físico, mental y social de las niñas y los niños. Es un medio de aprender a vivir, no es un mero pasatiempo y por lo tanto los juguetes deben estar al servicio de los niños y las niñas y no al revés. Comprar un juguete u otro es inculcar un modo de vida al niño, además de contribuir o no a su desarrollo físico, emocional o social según el juguete escogido. El juguete, como la educación no es neutral. Un escaparate de juguetes es la copia del mundo de los adultos: los mayores se matan, se preparan para la guerra, hacen distinción entre sexos...
Sabemos que el cine y la televisión introducen a las niñas y niños en un ambiente de agresividad. Asimismo los juguetes bélicos y sexistas no fomentan la colaboración, sino la competencia, el típico "yo te puedo", el viejo esquema de "buenos contra malos”. Suponen la iniciación a un sistema social competitivo y violento. Así, la violencia asumida por los niños y niñas será en el futuro la base de las relaciones sociales: el más fuerte triunfa, tiene razón y, además, es el bueno. Matar y morir forma parte del juego, y en ello subyace un desprecio por la vida humana. Existen juguetes mucho más adecuados que los bélicos para orientar hacia una creatividad constructiva nuestra agresividad natural, que no debemos confundir con violencia.
El mayor problema que genera regalar juguetes bélicos es que al comprarlos, les estamos diciendo a los niños/as que nos parece bien que jueguen con ellos y por lo tanto que la guerra y la violencia nos parecen bien como soluciones a los problemas.
Por otra parte resulta indignante que mientras nuestra sociedad está en un proceso de cambio los juguetes presentan la sociedad de hace 20 años y no la de ahora. No es cierto que la mujer esté actualmente encerrada en casa y no tenga otra opción profesional. No es cierto que los hombres no cambien pañales. ¿Los juguetes que regalamos a nuestras hijas/os son juguetes para el pasado, o son juguetes para el futuro? Estos juguetes sexistas reproducen los roles clásicos del hombre y la mujer, se convierten en un instrumento ideológico del que se sirve el sistema para perpetuarse. De esta forma los niños y niñas, por medio del juguete, asimilan la discriminación y reproducen los esquemas machistas y patriarcales que imperan en la sociedad, esquemas que se reflejan principalmente en la diferenciación de los juegos y los juguetes según los sexos, creando al varón posesivo y activo y a la mujer "cenicienta" del hogar dedicada al marido y a sus hijos, sin tener posibilidades de cumplir otro papel en la sociedad.
La solución pues no consiste tanto en que los niños deban jugar con muñecas y las niñas con coches, sino en superar la dualidad tradicional «esto es de niños» y «esto es de niñas», y permitir que los juguetes sean empleados por ambos sexos indistintamente; de hecho, si observamos la realidad, aunque tantos niños como niñas juegan con muñecos que unos muñecos sean para niñas y otros para niños es culpa nuestra. Sería conveniente fomentar el deseo en las/os menores de romper barreras o cotos privados así como la curiosidad por lo desconocido, lo nuevo, lo no experimentado y comprobar vivencialmente lo atractivo que pueden resultar estas nuevas actividades no agresivas.
Es preocupante la indiferencia de la sociedad con respecto a la importancia del juego, y la creciente explotación comercial de la infancia a través de los medios de comunicación y producción. Lo que importa es vender más para ganar más, que estos juguetes sean educativos o no, queda fuera de los planteamientos del mercado capitalista, que busca sus intereses y no los de los niños y niñas.
Lo que está en nuestras manos es no estimular los juguetes bélicos y sexistas. No se trata en ningún caso de imponer nada, ni de prohibir, sino de transmitir valores. Nuestros niños/as imitan pautas de conductas observadas en los mayores, asumen los roles vividos en sus casas; en el colegio, en la calle y los reproducen fielmente. Del mismo modo interiorizan la valoración que estos roles adquieren en la sociedad. Lo importante es ofrecerles nuevos patrones y modelos de relación entre personas y géneros. Con todo ello no queremos ser deterministas ni fanáticos, viendo por ejemplo en el niño que juega con un juguete bélico un futuro asesino, pero si queremos crear conciencia sobre este problema, que deriva en futuras conductas humanas de triste actualidad como la violencia de género o las injusticias que generan los conflictos armados a lo largo y ancho de nuestro planeta. Los juguetes tienen que potenciar la capacidad creativa e intelectual individual, así como desarrollar la cooperación y relación con otros niños y niñas.
Si está en tus manos, evita regalar juguetes bélicos y sexistas. NO REGALES VIOLENCIA.

Bei der 5. Zivilinspektion am 12. Mai um 10:30 Uhr hat ein Team von 7 zivilen (bürgerlichen) InspektorInnen das Hauptgelände der NATO Response Force (Eingreiftruppe) in Valencia (Spanien) betreten, obwohl das Gelände unter Sicherheitsüberwachung steht.
Sie forderten die Schliessung der Militärstation und eine Umwandlung in einen sozialen und umweltfreundlichen Raum. Die Besetzung war Teil einer Aktionswoche gegen Militäreinrichtungen.
Ein Transparent wurde entrollt mit der Aufschrift: "Frieden ohne Armeen". Insgesamt beteiligten sich etwa 80 Leute an der antimilitaristischen Aktion. Nach zwanzig Minuten auf dem Gebäudedach kamen drei Polizisten, die nach einiger Konfusion der Forderung nach freiem Abzug entgegenkamen und die BesetzerInnen ohne verhaftungen aus einem Fahrzeugtor wieder nach draussen liessen.
Die Aktionswoche in Spanien richtet sich auch gegebn die mögliche Einrichtung des NATO Raumüberwachungssystems (AGS) in Zaragoza oder Valladoid und gegen die NATO-Schule für KampfpilotInnen in Albacete. Am 6. Mai gab es eine Demo zur US Kaserne in Rota (Cadiz) und später betraten AktivistInnen auch das Übungslager in San Gregorio (Zaragiza), wo ein Panzer in Rosa angemalt wurde. Am 20. Mai ist eine Demo für Entmilitarisierung der Sierra de Aitana (Alicante) geplant, wo eine militärische Radarstation auf dem Berggipfel steht.
