Nuclear waste train in Lower Saxony
The tenth transport of highly radioactive power station waste from northern France to Gorleben reached Lower Saxony state early Sunday morning.
The last 50 kilometres by rail will be from Lüneburg to Dannenberg, a stretch that in the past has seen many blockade actions by activists.
From Dannenberg the 12 Castor containers will be trucked the last 20 kilometres to the dump in Gorleben, a trip that is usually also heavily targeted by protesters.
In the night Saturday to Sunday several hundred activists for a while blocked a road on the Castor route. During that demonstration in Metzingen a policeman lost his pistol. It was given back to him by a demonstrator who’d found it.
