A summary of the Castor resistance in the Wendland on Sunday.
After a rally in Klein Gusborn, more than 100 tractors blockaded the village street. More than 800 people demonstrated with the farmers until late into the night on the southern route, which was parked closed. Late in the evening the police began slowly to clear.

Between Langendorf and Quickborn in the morning around 70 activists on horses protested against the coming nuclear transport. A bicycle tour to the final repository [a salt mine dug near Gorleben for the purpose] also took place. There were various other activities.

In a kind of cat and mouse game in the Rallye Monte Göhrde [Göhrde is the largest forest are in north Germany] anti-nuclear activists built barricades all through the forest along the Castor transport route [railway line], which the police kept clearing away.

The Castor transport with highly radioactive waste has reached Germany and is continuing on its way to the interim storage hall in Gorleben. The train with 12 Castor caskets crossed the border from France at Lauterbourg at Sunday midday and continued on to Wörth (Rhineland-Palatinate). After different locomotives were attached it continued its trip north.

Previously French activists had held up the Castor transport with a rail track blockade at around 7.45 a.m. between Maxéville and Nancy. Near Avricourt, where Sébastien Briat was killed last year by a Castor transport, French nuclear opponents held a memorial function. At the place by the track where the accident happened a memorial plaque was erected, flowers were laid down and candles lit.

According to information from xtausend*quer the transport was held up for about two hours by a chain-on action.

About 500 demonstrators (the police said 500) took part in the afternoon in a rally along the transport route near Klein Gusborn. 215 tractors were also there.

After the rally in a paddock, 100 tractors drove into the village Klein Gusborn and since about 5 p.m. have blockaded the transport route there. Up to 800 demonstrators joined the protest.

Scuffles broke out there when police from Magdeburg tried to note the registration plates of the tractors and to film demonstrators and tractors. The police “were pushed away and took flight,” said a witness.
