Recent anti-fascist actions
A summary of recent anti-fascism actions:
Backnang (35 km northest of Stuttgart), reported by Georg: On 6 Dec between 350 and 400 people gathered for a demo, one of several planned in Rems-Murr county, with the slogan, “Sweep the Nazis off the Streets“. There are to be various functions dealing with rightwing radicalism and racism.
After an opening rally heard that the state and ruling politicians carry some of the responsibility for racism and rightwing radicalism, the procession moved through the Backnang centre. Brochures about the campaign were handed to people watching. When the demo disbanded after a finale at the railway station, some 200 people went spontaneously back to the centre to a pub, Music Point, frequented be rightwingers. Police, including dog handlers, sealed it off. Events in the campaign have been well attended on average. Contact

http://www.antifa-kehrwochen.tk. From a local newspaper: Several hundred mainly leftist demonstrators…Police wouldn’t reveal their own numbers…..Police film and photograph….Speakers claim that Rems-Murr county remains a stronghold of rightwing activities, with strong chapters of the NPD and JN organisations, as well as free comradeships and Nazi cliques. Speakers Alexandra Kollontai and Thomas Ketler point to the role of the state that had not managed “to implement a clearly anti-fascist context;” there was no sustained struggle against racism and fascism in Germany. Rather, fascism was anchored in society and a clear drift to the right was visible. Nazis found enough points of contact with mainstream politicians and in parts of the population. …. A father pushing a pram in the pedestrian mall feels disturbed in his Saturday shopping and wishes “that the Nazis come and eradicate this leftist mob.” He is not the only one who opposes the demonstration. But there is also approval from some passers-by.
Nuremberg, 6 Dec, state of emergeny because of Nazis, Karla Marx reporting: The self-admitted National Socialist, Gerd Ittner, had announced Nazi marches for Nuremberg on 29 November and 6 December. Failing to mobilise, he quietly dropped the 29th, but called for “a nationwide demonstration of national resistance” for the 6th. The city authorities allowed the Ittnerists to use Nelson Mandela square directly at the central railway station. …. Agreement was reached with the local press not to report the Nazi march nor counter activities …. An anti-fascist assembly began at 10 am before the Nazis arrived. About 500 mostly young anti-fascists gathered to move towards the station in cold and rain. But the city had allowed only a route of 1,000 metres so that the march ended after a few minutes. At Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz police excesses began, attacking a demo vehicle, but this was repulsed…..After the rally participants headed for Mandela place to expect the Nazis. More than 2,500 cops beleaguered the square and closed off all access streets. …. Some demonstrators were removed with the argument that their presence provoked the fascists….Ultimately about 50 of them arrived, 95% of them young male skinheads, in the middle of them a confused-looking, grey-haired man in his fifties, the self-proclaimed leader of the “National Resistance”, Gerd Ittner. …. After their rally the little brown heap, surrounded by 2,000 police guards, wended their way to the south of the city. The massive police presence kept anti-fascists at bay. Strange sight: four-lane streets full of police for hundreds of metres, Nazis impossible to see, anti-fascists restricted to footpaths, where they kept being physically attacked. …. Despite the fright-inspiring spectacle migrant kids kept joining in the anti-fascist shouting. At Maffeyplatz the Nazis turned back and outshouted by anti-fascists made for the station. There was chaos on the streets. Repeatedly anti-fascists were encircled, people attacked by cops and beaten, and everyone involved no longer had an overview. In this confusion small groups of anti-Nazis kept getting close to the Nazis, but were pushed off again. After the brown comrades had disappeared in the cordoned off station, the infuriated cops attacked someone not the least involved, who happened to stand in the way as they charged and was knocked over. A group of them laid into him. …. The involvement in this demonstration made clear what the colours of the advancing fascism in Germany are, and they are not the colours of Gerhard Ittner.

Halle, 6 Dec, Augenzeuge (eyewitness) reporting, Nazi attacks at football in Halle: About 20 to 30 Nazis attacked three players of "Roter Stern Halle" and about 15 neutral fans at a game between VfL Halle and FSV Hettstedt. This follows several scuffles at Nazi protests against the Wehrmacht exhibition about a week before. Police and security intervened only after being asked to.
Bielefeld, 7 Dec, w-a-a-u-b reporting: Up to 100 anti-fascists demonstrated at five different locations against the rightwing rock scene in and near Bielefeld. Leading protagonists of the Nazi music scene were visited at their homes. The action was part of a “We’ll Rock You Tour 2003 – No Space for Nazi Music!” campaign run by anti-fascist groups in North-Rhine Westphalia. There is a neo-Nazi music scene in the area which is partially of international significance. It’s important to rightwing youth.

Berlin, 6 Dec, Ernst Kadletz reporting: On 6 Dec about 170 Nazis from the “Kameradschaft” (comradeship) scene for “national centres” marched through the districts of Neukölln and Treptow-Köpenick. Anti-fascist protest along the route and immediate surroundings of the Nazi march was possible and multi-faceted. At 10 am several hundred people gathered at Zwickauer Damm subway station for a rally called by the Berlin alliance "Gemeinsam gegen Rechts" (Together Against the Right). The Nazi march formed in Rudow, but started out late. Anti-fascists managed to get to the nazi demo.Police changed the Nazis’ route along side streets. The march was blocked several times. Police were said to have been rough in places. Police kept counter-demonstrations far away from the Nazis. About 1,000 anti-fascists were estimated to have taken part. The cops said they numbered 1,000. 25 people were reported arrested.

Karlsruhe, New Year’s Eve, xxx reporting: Nazis of the Karlsruhe Kameradschaft have applied for a demonstration on New Year’s eve, under the slogan “Youth needs spaces – for national centres”. Their last demo application in September was rejected by the city authorities. They’re expected to be ready for another ban and to be determined to use the law to fight for permission. That means be at Kronenplatz at 5 p.m. for a street parade with several floats, bands, DJ’s against neo-liberal city policies.
