An Australian Aboriginal anti-nuclear waste activist says she will be taking useful experiences from the Gorleben protests home to her Coober Pedy people fighting plans to build Australia’s first nuclear dump near them. Nina Brown of the Irati Wanti (The poison, leave it) campaign told Zusa activist radio she was here to observe and take part in the creative resistance against the Castor transport. Her own campaigners wanted to connect with and find strength in the international anti-nuclear movement. Brown said that while in the centre of Australia, where she and her people live, the nuclear waste plan is a strong issue, “along the east coast they really don’t care about it, they think it’s out of sight, out of mind, it doesn’t concern us so we’re not going to fuss too much about it.” Brown said being in the Gorleben protest had been “an absolute experience” and she added that it would be very difficult to rally people in the Outback.
