pics of the police raid on "L´usine" and (IMC_Geneve)
- Independent Media Center in Geneva raided by police
- About 30 international journalists were taken in custody inside the independent media center
- Livestream coverage shut down by police forces
On the edge of streetfights between protesters and police forces in the streets around the Geneva culture center \\\"L\\\'usine\\\", police forces broke into the building, where the Independent Media Center Geneva had been broadcasting a live video coverage of the anti-G8-protests over the last three days. Free and independend journalists use the \\\"L´usine\\\" as a place for radio production and the updating of several differnt internetportals.
About 30 international journalists were taken in custody inside the building, where they were searched by police forces. At least five of the filmmakers, who were working on the live video stream have been arrested by police.
While plain tiff police men were already breaking up the doors to the building using axes, the Indymedia team broadcasted a livestream from inside \\\"L\\\'usine\\\". At 22.05 hs, the policemen entered the room of indymedia center wsithout giving a reason. \\\"We remained calm and identified ourselves immediately as journalists\\\", Ersatzradio-correspondent Florian Schneider said, \\\"nevertheless, we were forced to shut off our cameras, were not allowed to touch our computers
and had to line up against the wall with raised hands.\\\" The journalists were bag and body-searched and their personal data was filed. While Matthias von Hartz, another G8-correspondents of the berlin-based radio station was making a telephone interview to Ersatzradio he was forced to switch off his phone.
The policemen conducting the raid were not wearing uniformes. Instead, they were wearing leather jackets, palestinian
kufiyeh-scarfs and black ski-masks, apparently dressing up like so-called \\\"blac bloc\\\"-protesters.
