JOIN THE HUMAN RIGHTS MARCH!

Do you want to be part of something important?

People all over the world have for a long time witnessed the sufferings of
the Palestinian people under the Israeli occupation. Also in Israel, we see
that the conditions are getting more and more difficult. The sufferings of
the people are increasing, and many are living in fear of the threat of
suicide bombers. The situation is at a stalemate; the politicians have not
found solutions.

Together we can make an historical contribution to the future of the people
of this war-torn region. Let’s do it!

The initiatives for an

International Human Rights March
to Palestine and Israel in 2003

was taken by 12 Norwegian Women, who are collaborating with organizing
committees in Palestine and Israel. The Norwegian Committee is supported by
the Norwegian Peace Alliance, and the Norwegian section of the Womens
International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), among others. In Israel,
the committee has the support of the Coalition of Women for Peace and
WILPF - Israel. The Palestinian committee is supported by the General Union
of Palestinian Women (GUPW). The committees are cooperating as much as
possible under the prevailing difficulties. We also have national committees
or contact persons in many countries, please go to our web-site
http://www.humanrightsmarch.org , to see if there’
s one in your country. If not - we appeal to you to bring people together,
and start one!

The March will take place in June/July 2003 or September 2003.

Originally the March was planned to take place in April 2003. But because of
the volatile situation in the Middle East (a possible war in Iraq) we are
now planning the March for September 2003.

Women in Norway initiated a Human Rights March in 1982 in the Soviet Union,
taking with them women from all over Europe. These same women went to
Central America in 1986, again taking along with them women from Europe and
America, by the thousands. Women all over the world have a historical
tradition in non-violence.

The present invitation to women all over the world to participate in the
International Human Rights March is a continuation of this tradition, which
is founded on the principles of non-violence and the UN’s Declaration of
Human Rights. Men are most welcome to participate in the projects during the
March, such as concerts, workshops, evening discussions, artistic events
etc.

The March is planned to begin in Israel, and then to proceed to the Gaza
Strip, the occupied territories of Palestine (the West Bank) and both East
and West Jerusalem. We will conclude our walks in Jerusalem. Each day we
will walk for several hours in Israeli and Palestinian cities and villages.
The program will include discussions in the various local communities,
workshops, and cultural events. Co-operative projects will continue after
the conclusion of the March. We may plant olive trees or help harvest the
spring crop of fruit in Palestine.

Participation in the March should give a clearer picture to all of the
participants about the various feelings and viewpoints present in Israel and
Palestine about the on-going conflict. It will be the aim of the March to
demonstrate solidarity with the people of Palestine and Israel while
emphasizing the many benefits to be gained by upholding UN decisions. This
includes bringing the occupation to an end, stopping the suicide bombings,
and upholding international conventions.

Our children deserve to live in peace.
We, women,
deserve recognition of our rights!

We, Palestinian and Israeli women, refuse to be enemies.

Join us in globalizing the conscience! Let’s think and act in new ways -
another world is possible.

At last, we appeal to you to support a sister in the South, by giving her
the opportunity to participate in the March. If you want to give a donation,
please contact the Norwegian Committee!
