The international Day of the Woman in Brasil

In several of the country's cities protests and demonstrations are taking place in memory of women's historical struggle for equility and justice:

Belo Horizonte: On the 7th, rural workers launch a campaign which will bring 50,000 women to Brasilia, the capital. The objective will be to demand agrarian reform, respect for the environment, a dignified minimum wage, rights to public health and an end to all forms of discrimination and violence. From 10 o'clock on the 8th, there will be a public protest against violence, the FTAA and the war in Praça Sete.

Natal: The demonstrations begin with a morning coffee at the Union of Education Workers, which will be followed by a stroll through the city centre.

Rio de Janeiro: From 5pm on the 8th, there will be a feminist demonstration for peace in Copacabana.

São Paulo: From 2pm on the 7th, there will be a multi-partidarian protest in Praça do Patriarca. On Saturday, the 8th of March, there will be a protest from 10 O'clock onwards in Praça da República. Throughout March, the São Paulo prefecture launch an extensive programme of discussions, debates and presentations.

Ceará: protest and comemoration demonstrations begin on the 7th in the state of Ceará. In Crato there are protests against the murders of 40 women in two years in that region of the state (Cariri). These will continue on Saturday in several other cities of Cariri. There is a demonstration at 3pm on the 8th in Praia da Iracema, Forteleza. The Cearán feminist movement demands the application of measures to end the attrocities commited in Ceará. DENUNCIATION: in the Federal University of Goias (UFG), the graducate course in Agronomy promoted a raffle where the prize was a woman.
