During the European Social Forum the date 15th Feb. was proclaimed european action day against war. About 10 billion persons should be mobilized to demonstrate against war in the streets. Outside of Europe numerous actions and big demonstrations are planned. This war, which is supported by many EU-governments is rejected by more than 80 % of the European citizens. But instead the right wing Spanish Prime Minister Aznar created a pro war coalition, to which 8 countries belong. London: First it was only a rumour - but now it's said: The planned big demonstration in London, where 1 billion persons were expected is as good as forbidden! After they tried to criminalize it in advance by talking into existence violence during the demonstration the Royal Parks Authority got active and the organizors were prohibited entering Hyde Park where the demonstration should take place. The Stop the War Coalition has published a press statement:  http://nyc.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=45365&group=webcast

New York In New York a demonstration with tenthousands of persons was planned. Under NO circumstances - according to authorities - should there be such a big march. Reason: The police can not guarantee security... More about that:  http://nyc.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=45205&group=webcast

Budapest For some time one could hear worrying news from Hungarian home policy. The planned demonstration in Budapest was forbidden. Reason "detraction of traffic"! This kind of prohibitions and their reasons are normally well known in Germany. More about that:  http://www.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=233120&group=webcast

Also in Germany increasing represed is expected with a growing movement - at least against parts of the movement. Even if the government supports the peace-movement in the moment (out of strategic reasons) a strong movement in the streets doesn't need a government. Especially in times of neoliberal restructuring of society.
