MPs and Lords declare: "Khatami, Rafsanjani and Khamenei were among masterminds of massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in 1988"
In a new policy initiative entitled "Iran: End the Terror," 453 members of the Houses of Parliament, including 331 members of the House of Commons - an absolute majority - and 122 members of the House of Lords, rejected the terrorist
label against the People's Mojahedin Organisation of Iran and declared:
"Supporting the struggle of the people of Iran and the People's Mojahedin Organization to achieve democracy and human rights are essential parts of the defeat of terrorism at home and abroad."
The all-party initiative was announced in a press conference at the House of Commons this morning. Distinguished Peers - Lord Corbett, Lord Clarke, Lord
Archer and Baroness Gould - and MPs - Win Griffiths, Steve McCabe, and Julie Morgan - addressed the press conference. Ms. Dowlat Nowrouzi, the UK Representative of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, was among the speakers.
Among the MPs supporting this important initiative are three party leaders, a deputy minister, 28 parliamentary private secretaries, and five members of the Shadow Cabinet. Nine chairpersons of parliamentary committees, eight
Commons Whips and 24 spokespersons of political parties in the Commons were among the signatories. Six distinguished Lord Bishops have also joined this initiative in support of the Iranian Resistance along with other eminent members of the House of Lords.
In recent months, a majority of members of parliaments in Italy, Belgium and Luxembourg and a large number of members of the French National Assembly have launched similar initiatives and called on their governments and the
European Union to adopt a new Iran policy.
A press statement by Lord Corbett and Win Griffiths released after the pressconference today is enclosed.
