STUTTGART a city of different identities ??

The last few days and probably the coming week is going to leave the city of Stuttgart in an atmosphere that the 600,000 people of this German-Swabian city seem not to be be used to . This city; renown as the capital of the two prestigious German car producing companies; Daimler-Crysler and Porsche, is suddenly getting on the news these days on different headlines:

STUTTGART
i. The city where the workers of ?IG Metall? are asking for what they call a proper increase in salaries as opposed to salary increaments meant to catch-up with inflation levels.

STUTTGART
i. The city in whose neighborhood-Weil Der Stadt; there is presently a ?TUBERCULOSIS SCARE? in an Asylum-home in Benz str.3 &5 and the administration concern are taking NO measures to remedy the situation. A resident of the Asylum-home died last week in the hospital and another during the same period was admitted in hospital with Tuberculosis.

STUTTGART
i. The City hosting the annual meeeting of the Atomic Energy lobby (German Atomforum), who seem to ignore complains from some interested members of the public of the net-disadvantage , damage and danger of atomic energy to the German public in particular and the world as a whole.
I.)IG METALL/ STUTTGART
Since monday the 6th of May 2002 the workers of the IG Metall trade Union in Stuttgart and it?s vicinity have embarked on what could be called a cyclic demonstration, whereby from one day to the next the workers of one company in the IG Metall network takes over the strike baton. They insist they will continue their actions until their demands are met. They are asking for a proper salary increament as opposed to what have been the case in the pass couple of years were increaments are meant to simply adjust to inflation levels. They complain that since the resources where not used to help create jobs as was required, there should be a 6% wage increase. It is mostly considered amongst observers that the German workers do not have a culture of asking and getting their demands through strikes. Whether that will be the case this time or whether it is the begining of the end of a culture of passivity within the German trade Union community , shall be evident in the coming days.

II) TUBERCULOSIS SCARE? IN AN ASYLUM-HOME IN Benz str.3 &5 Weil Der Stadt-STUTTGART
In the last two years there have been two deaths in the Asylum home in Benz str.3 & 5 in Weil Der Stadt. Both persons died in the hospital. The death of the Kosovar Albanian last year did not bring any controversy because of the fact that he was an old man and the residence of the Asylum home did not feel the pulse to ask questions about his death. Especially as many of the residence were still just transfered to the place and assumed the authorities had their common interest in heart. But with time this confidence has erroded for many reasons. Suddenly on wednesday 8th May2002 the residence where thrown into complete dispair. They were told one of the residence Sama Engels Mankoh has died in the hospital and another resident Ndi Christian has been admitted into the hospital and diagnosed with tuberculosis. There was total panic. Virtually no one slept on the night of 8th May breaking 9th 2002 on the section of the building where both victims stayed. On the next day 9th May 2002 some friends of those residing at the Asylum home rang Doctors and tried to ask questions and explain the worries of those residing there, then advice and consolation from these friends help abate some of the fears . Attempts at explaining the frustration of the way things have been handled have been met with strange comments from some of the authorites like ?if you are not happy with the way you are being treated then you can leave Germany and go elsewhere.? This have called for lots of other questions of which the authorities are not giving any answers: 1.Of what sickness did Sama die of ? the answer from the authorities is ?that information is only to be given to his family members according to the law. Even though Sama?s roomates who lived with him in the same room for a year and a half are those most interested in the information. The strange thing is that all the people working in the Kreisamt have this imformation already though. 2.)Of what sickness did the old Albanian who died last year die of ?? 3.) For all the years that this Asylum home has been existing how many people have ever been infected with tubercolosis?? Again NO answer. This only goes to enhance the believe of those leaving here that there is something more sinister wrong here. Ndi Christian was diagnosed with TB Monday 6th May2002 and immediately all those he worked with at Bahof-Weil der Stadt (where he has stopped working for 3months now) and all of the authorities that come to the Asylum home have all been tested for TB. But only some of those who stay in the Asylum home will be tested for TB on thurday 16th May2002 .

GERMAN ATOM FORUM IN STUTGART
This is an annual meeting of the atomic energy lobby group . Which include all big names in the energy business like RWE Power AG, E-ON, EnBW. Also in attendance are companies that construct Nuclear plans like SIEMENS and the German French company FRAMATOME. An other interesting member is DEUTSCHE BAHN who is the owner of the NECKAR WESTHEIM Nuclear plant near Stuttgart. Because of the large amount of money that changes hands in this business there are also a lot of Banks involved ; like the DEUTSCHE BANK and a host of other construction companies as well.
This people are talking of a business that produces the most dangerous industrial wastes known to humankind
People involved in the anti-atomic energy movement have been trying to see how they can educate people of the irrationality of producing waste(nuclear waste) which is dangersous to us all and to our enviroment and worst of all which will remain dangerous for thousand of years.Dangerous as well is the nuclear plans themselves in the case of an accident. As well as the fact that they add redioactive particles in the enviroment.
The companies who have been making billions from this Business are determinded to continue with their business and has embark on an imformation or better called by others as a disimformation campaign:
-The atomic energy lobby talk of atomic energy as being an enviromentally clean source of energy. This sound like a bad joke when one considers the thousands if not millions of years that the waste remains dangers to the whole planets; especially considering the resent reports of the dangers still posed by the socalled TREATED WASTE. Over the last 50 years every type of nuclear waste ?disposal? to date, has leaked and done so faster and at higher rates than were projected by either dumpers or regulators. This is dangerous to humans and the entire biosphere.

-The atomic energy lobby talk of cheap cost of atomic energy while refusing to tell the people of the hundreds of thousands of Euros provided by the government as subsides . Alot of those involved in the Anti-Atomic energy campaign have not found a rational explanation as to why the government finds is necessary to subsidize atomic energy despite all the dangers that that pose to the society instead of subsidizing alternative energy sources. Especially when one remembers the 1998 contamination from radiation from CASTOR canisters brought to the Hague for reprocessing in which contamination was said to have exceeded radiation limits by 3000times.
The Anti-atomic Energy movement is determinded to see into to it that thier call for an immediate close of all nuclear power plants immediately without further delay both in Germany and the world at large is heeded to.
They consider that the cost of the distruction being cost in the mining of Uranium, the destruction caused to the biosphere, the enviroment by nuclear waste as well as the dangers nuclear energy pose to our society give no excuse for us to still be running nuclear plans. This taking into consideration that all nuclear energy needed for medical research can be produced by alternative means.
In the name of pushing for a more safe world the anti-atom movement will be anhancing their campaign during the period that the Atomforum is holding in Stuttgart with alot of awareness activities that have been going on at an accelerated rate in Stuttgart for a while now.
