On Thursday, August 9th 01 at 22.00 p.m. a video from the protest performances of the Publixtheatrecaravan was shown on a large-screen from the waterside (canal) in front of the Italian consulate, Herengracht 581 in Amsterdam.

01 at 22.00 p.m. a video from the protest performances of the Publixtheatrecaravan was shown on a large-screen from the waterside (canal) in front of the Italian consulate, Herengracht 581 in Amsterdam. Their performance is called "No Border, No Nation". This theatregroup of 25 people has been arrested on last July 22nd, at 30 kilometres outside Genua, Italy, by the Italian police on their way back home and they have been ill-treated. At this moment they are still in prison.
We have invited the Italian ambassador and consul to watch the video. The ambassador claimed last week during the occupation of the consulate that there were no more arrested people in prison in Genua.
With this video-performance we want to show that it is a nonsensical accusation to keep this theatregroup in prison as core of the "black block". They are in prison now for further research. In Italy this can mean one can be kept for 6 months. To support the accusation the police has seized black T-shirts, inside-frames of backpacks, inflammable liquid and helmets, which as the police says, should serve as weapons. Those, however are all attributes of the performance, among others for fire-spitters, jugglers, and "frontier-guards" as to be seen on the video. The performance they did in Genua is part of a series of performances along the borderlines of Europe.
It will be clear to everybody that the accusations are absurd. The aim is after all, to criminalise an international movement. In this way the story of a "touring black block" is constructed. They and 25 others are political prisoners used to legitimate the police-violence. We demand the immediate release! No rest for the responsible persons!
The participants of the caravan are all from different countries, among them are two that live in the Netherlands: Anne, working in A SEED, an environmental organisation and Brian working in the squat building OT301, the former filmacademy in Amsterdam.
From out the prison the 25 people of the caravan wrote a declaration which ends up in the next:
"we want to leave the prisons together with our dog Pogo, with our theatre props, our kitchen, our vehicles, computer, cameras and our stinking socks. We are not swedish, australians, americans, slovacians, germans, austrians ", we are Publixtheatrecaravan.
We work out a play in which we take a stand to everything that happened during our tour. For us theatre is an important political expression.
This play should help to clear and digest all the happenings we are confronted with now.
